Confident at work: this is what a study by the professional network LinkedIn found out

In a world grappling with the aftermath of a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, and geopolitical tensions, the resilience of German employees stands out as a beacon of hope. According to a recent study conducted by LinkedIn, 2024 could be the year when professionals take their career destinies into their own hands, demonstrating a remarkable surge in self-confidence and a proactive approach towards job satisfaction.

Rising Confidence Amidst Global Challenges

As the year 2023 unfolded with challenges such as inflation, war threats, and the persistent pandemic, one might expect a decline in motivation among employees. Surprisingly, the LinkedIn study discovered quite the opposite. A remarkable 90% of the 2,012 participants expressed a growing sense of self-confidence in their jobs. This marks a significant increase from 82% in 2021, signaling a positive shift despite the tumultuous global backdrop.

According to Barbara Wittmann, Country Manager of LinkedIn DACH, the pandemic and associated lockdowns in the previous year played a pivotal role in this transformation. "The economic uncertainty no longer seems to be affecting their self-confidence," she notes, highlighting the resilience that arose from facing challenges head-on.

Empowered Employees Voice Their Needs

While 42% of respondents acknowledge the potential threat of job loss in 2024, a majority of employees now recognize the value of their talents. LinkedIn's study suggests that this newfound confidence may spell the end of the notorious impostor syndrome. Almost half of the participants (49%) are now bold enough to seek promotions, and an equivalent number (47%) feel empowered to ask for a pay raise.

The desire for positive change is palpable. Nearly 60% of those surveyed can envision changing jobs in 2024, with Generation Z leading the charge at almost 70%. Dissatisfaction with current employment stems from unmet demands, including the desire for a higher salary (32%), a better work-life balance (22%), better development opportunities (21%), and a yearning for more appreciation.

Optimism for 2024: A Year of New Beginnings

LinkedIn's analysis concludes on an optimistic note, estimating that 2024 will witness employees seizing control of their job prospects without fear of unemployment. A staggering 81% of participants believe they will find a new job despite the economic crisis, while one in five expresses interest in further vocational training.

Barbara Wittmann emphasizes, "Our studies show that the skills we need on the job are changing faster and faster," suggesting that continuous learning and adaptation are key to future success. Employees and applicants alike have an opportunity to position themselves for success through ongoing training.
